For more than 40 years, Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties has been fighting to end local hunger. The phenomenal non-profit offers an array of programs, such as Family Harvest, which “provides supplemental, nutritious food every month to low-income families with minor dependents”; and Operation Brown Bag, which “provides low-income seniors (age 60 and above) and disabled individuals (age 55 and above) a weekly bag of groceries,” among other excellent programs.
From July 2014 to June 2015, Second Harvest “distributed more than one million pounds of nutritious food each week to low-income people in need,” according to the organization’s website. Second Harvest collaborates with more than 300 partner non-profits to help provide food to those in need throughout Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties.
