American Spa examines five grounding meditation apps

We live in a high-tech, fast-paced world. Which makes it all the more important to slow down sometimes. And living in a high-tech world certainly has its benefits, including revolutionary apps that help make it easier to pause and reflect.

An article in American Spa by writer Sunny Chayes – “Five Meditation Apps That Will Make You Feel Grounded” – explores a handful of such apps.

“As our minds are being sucked ever more deeply into the electronic never world, is it possible that these same mobile instigators could possibly help us recover some of the precious mindfulness that is lost to them?” Chayes writes. “A slew of mobile app developers tend to think so. If we are going to spend so much time on our phones, it’s only right that they help us ground ourselves back into reality.”

The article looks at the pros and cons of apps such as Headspace and Calm, which are “very similar,” Chayes writes. Both are cited positively as being “beautifully effective for a combination of ease-of-use and quality,” while the downside for both is the cost (“each app costs around $13 a month for full use,” Chayes writes).

Other apps Chayes examines in the article are Insight Timer, Vibe and Muse, each with their own benefits and drawbacks. In a fast-paced world, it’s comforting to know technology is available to help us meditate and slow down.
